Many people have concerns about buying a hybrid car - and they don’t just relate to the price tag. Again this is true as the batteries used were originally NiMH but are now progressing to lithium-ion with some even able to hit 0-60mph in four seconds. The NiMH batteries used in most hybrid cars currently are fully recyclable.

Despite this, a 2003 EPRI study , assuming only $2/gallon gas , zero buying incentives, and a PHEV premium of $3-$5,000 more than standard hybrids, shows that the total lifetime cost of ownership for a PHEV will be lower than that of any other vehicle type -- so the payback will be there. 2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries. People wont buy a full car. They will buy a car and rent or lease the battery and the cost of leasing the battery will be the same as, or less than, the cost theyre paying today for petrol. The Omori factory currently produces NiMH cells.
