The Boston Consulting Group predicts that people around the world will take 1 billion flights in air taxis in 2030, once sharing services have also established a presence on fixed routes above the ground; most of those air taxis will be capable of operating without a pilot. Experts expect commercial operations to begin in 2023.

As an example of cost direction, BCG forecasts that NCA cell and pack costs will decline 60-65% by 2020. Despite this cost challenge, however, the report projects steady growth for hybrid and electric cars—including mild- and full-hybrids; plug-in hybrids; extended range electric vehicles; and fully electric vehicles.

Electric car supporters are rising to defend General Motors’ development of the Chevy Volt after the Obama Administration’s automotive task force proclaimed that the car was probably too expensive to be commercially successful in the near future.
