In the US, the Group is also working on the commercial extraction of battery-grade lithium, an important feedstock for the production of cathode materials and conductive salts.

New hybrid sweetgum trees could boost paper, bioenergy production

Researchers at the University of Georgia (UGA) have crossed American sweetgums with their Chinese cousins, creating hybrid sweetgum trees that have a better growth rate and denser wood than natives, and can produce fiber year-round. The new hybrid varieties are already being sold commercially by ArborGen Inc., —Scott Merkle.
