Nissan Motor will invest $600 million in Argentina and will become an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with the domestic production there of an all-new NP300 Frontier pick-up. The global Renault-Nissan Alliance will serve as a tool to kick-off Nissan’s manufacturing operations in the country.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler AG are expanding their five-year strategic cooperation ( earlier post ) into the pickup truck segment. Together, Nissan and Daimler will develop a 1-ton pickup truck for Mercedes-Benz. Production of Renault’s 1-ton truck will begin in 2016 at Nissan’s plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

The partnership between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler AG accelerated and strengthened as it entered its sixth year in 2015, the companies’ leaders said today in a media update given during the Frankfurt International Motor Show. Nissan and Daimler will co-develop the vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its new pickup truck—the first from a premium manufacturer—the X-Class. At the beginning of 2018 South Africa, Australia and New Zealand will follow, and at the beginning of 2019 Argentina and Brazil. The pickup is being manufactured in a production cooperation with the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
