Aptera has announced that they will be using EVE Energy batteries in their upcoming production car, and the batteries will be produced in San Diego. Specifically, Aptera has chosen to use EVE’s 21700 NMC 811 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries in its structural battery packs.

What began as a field of 136 vehicles from 111 teams has now been narrowed to an nine vehicles from seven teams that have met the competition requirements, including the ability to achieve at least 90 MPGe on the way toward the ultimate 100 MPGe requirement and to survive grueling dynamic safety and range tests.

In a press conference in Carlsbad, California, Aptera Motors unveiled the pre-production version of the electric three-wheel, 200+ mpg Aptera 2e along with 23 strategic suppliers , including GE; A123Systems for the Li-ion battery pack; Remy International for the drive motor ( earlier post ); and BorgWarner for the single ratio transaxle.
