The BMW Mini E has hit the streets. In June about 500 cars were placed in consumer and fleet hands in Los Angeles and New York and New Jersey for what BMW calls a " field trial." Like all the automakers, BMW dabbled in concept electric cars over the years. The answer lies back with California’s ZEV mandate.

Hot on the heels of making its North American debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 will arrive in US showrooms in early December. The vehicle boasts BMW’s interpretation of two-mode hybrid technology mated to a 4.4litre twin-turbo V8.

Fritz Henderson, GM’s President and CEO: “ We had a couple of Audi and BMW customers sit in an Equinox and say ‘this vehicle should be priced well above what it is’—Chevrolet should blow people away for what they get for their money. ”. Buick will focus on North America and China. GM is a strong player in China and Latin America.

BMW of North America and the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) are partnering on a year-long field study to determine the viability of electric vehicles. The automotive and green electric vehicle blogosphere has been abuzz with talk of the BMW MINI E ever since July 9th, 2008, when AutoblogGreen published the rumor that 500 of the intriguing new electric cars would be released later this year in California. If my speculation holds true congratulations are due both to BMW and AC Propulsion.
