US DOE Awards $300 Million in Clean Cities Grants to Support Alternative Fuels, Vehicles, and Infrastructure Development

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has selected 25 cost-share projects under the Clean Cities program that will be funded with nearly $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Selected projects, by size of award, are: State of Wisconsin’s Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program. Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

This “Clean Alternative Fuel Vehicle and Engine Conversions” (CAFC) rule, created a special category, known as Outside Useful Life (OUL), which applies to heavy-duty diesel engines with more than 435,000 miles, or more than 22,000 hours of operation, or are more than 10 years old.

Pennsylvania DEP awards nearly $517,000 in clean diesel grants

The clean diesel program’s goal is to improve air quality by decreasing emissions from diesel-powered transit bus and school bus fleets. The program supports projects that re-power or retrofit fleet vehicles to curb emissions; purchase and install idle-reduction technology; or purchase clean alternative-fuel fleet vehicles.
