An exponential increase in EVs will require exponential growth in the availability of locations to charge them. The Union of Concerned Scientists documents that an ICE vehicle in Ohio must maintain an average of 60 mpg to equal the emissions used to produce what’s needed to run an EV for the same distance. In California, it is 134 mpg.

Road Test: 2023 Lexus UX 250h Premium FWD Standout Fuel-Efficient Premium Compact Crossover The 2023 Lexus UX continues as the smallest compact crossover utility vehicle (CUV) from Toyota’s premium division. The 2023 UX 250h runs on 87 octane and is EPA rated at 43 mpg city/41 highway/42 combined.

Fuel economy for the 2022 UX 250h, which runs on 87 octane gasoline, is EPA rated at 41 mpg city/38 highway/39 combined, but in the Eco drive mode our time traversing Southern California highways covered 221 miles at an average of 42.7 mpg, and on short in-town runs I was getting in excess of 50 mpg.
