The UK Plug-in Car grant aims to stimulate the sales of electric cars by slicing a chunk of the price. Recently the value of the grant was reduced and the number of models eligible dramatically cut. Priced at £34,945, before the grant, the new model offers upto 282 miles of range (WLTP), the most of any sub £35,000 car.

The first nine electric drive cars to become eligible for the Plug-in Car Grant of up to £5,000 (US$7,900) in the UK are: Mitsubishi iMiEV; smart fortwo electric drive; Peugeot iON; Citroen CZero; Nissan Leaf; Tata Vista EV; Toyota Prius Plug-in; Vauxhall Ampera and Chevrolet Volt. Yesterday the UK Government announced immediate changes to the Plug-In car Grant, reducing the value to £2,500 and the number of models eligible. The value of the grant has been reduced by £500 to £2,500 and is only available on cars under £35,000. Additionally, MG has committed to topping up the grant to £3,000 until March 31, 2021.
