Sure, if you need to make lots of long trips in a car, and can only afford to have one car, then probably a Tesla’s not for you. Where is affordable. They leased a few (at a loss) to those that could afford it. If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. Hybrids are a proven winner, but a series-hybrid (range extended EV), such as the Volt takes things to a much higher level with existing and "mostly" affordable tech.
