Honda will leverage EV hardware in a new all-wheel drive system for future hybrids, while also targeting two million annual EV sales by the end of the decade, according to a Thursday business update from the automaker. Under this strategy, for example, the Honda Insight will be replaced by a Civic Hybrid.

Honda Motor Company will introduce a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and a new plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) to the US market in 2012, said President & CEO Takanobu Ito in his mid-year address in Tokyo, Japan. Plug-in hybrid. A new plug-in hybrid system for mid-size to larger vehicles is currently under development, Ito said.
