Umicore is actively working with cell manufacturers to advance SSB tech, and recently opened a material prototyping center in Belgium that supports all the steps in SSB production, from formulation to testing. Based on our precious metals recycling, we pioneered industrial-scale battery recycling in 2011 in Belgium.

In October, though, Volvo announced that, due to positive public reaction and high demand, it would add production of the EX30 to its factory in Ghent, Belgium, where the current XC40 Recharge and C40 EVs are built. Audi, BMW, Genesis, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz only offer electric SUVs in larger and much pricier segments.

The two models from Kandi have not yet reached customers and Kandi’s CEO declined to comment in an email response on either the status of its small, affordable EVs or the potential change in the tax credit. Or perhaps assembly is shifted from China to Volvo’s plants in Sweden and Belgium for the European market and then imported into the US.
