Toyota announced the pricing for the 2017 model year Mirai fuel cell vehicle. Mirai customers also may qualify for an $8,000 federal tax credit and $5,000 potential California rebate along with access to the California HOV carpool lane. Costs above exclude official fees, taxes and dealer charges.

Toyota, which does publish sales of its PHEV models, reported that the RAV4 Prime — which is the PHEV version of the number 4-selling vehicle in the US since since 2017 — had 2021 sales of 27,707 units. The closest comparisons for hydrogen-only cars are the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo. While not fast by EV standards, it will get the job done for entering freeways, which is what the e:FCEV will be doing a lot of as it will only be leased in California when it hits dealers in late 2024. But those models don’t have a plug.
