Oxis Energy, a UK-based developer of lithium-sulfur batteries, reported via Twitter that one of its standard polymer Li-S pouch cells surpassed 450 cycles this week. UK-based Lithium-sulfur battery company OXIS Energy ( earlier post ) reported developing a Lithium-sulfur cell achieving in excess of 300 Wh/kg. The company says that vehicle manufacturers are already reviewing and evaluating the cell technology. OXIS predicts it will achieve a cell capacity of 33Ah by mid-2015.

Li-sulfur battery developer OXIS Energy UK ( earlier post ) and Lithium Balance of Denmark are partnering to build a prototype Lithium-sulfur battery system primarily for the e-scooter market in China. The E-scooter itself will be manufactured in China. This could not be achieved with an ordinary Lithium-Ion BMS.

Lithium-sulfur batteries are considered as highly promising candidate applied for EVs due to their high specific energy. BASF has invested $50 million to acquire an equity ownership position in privately held Sion Power, the leading developer of rechargeable lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. BASF had previously announced its intention to invest a three-digit million euro sum in researching, developing and producing advanced battery materials through 2016.
