Diesel car registrations in Europe in 2017 down 7.9%; SUV sales up 19.5%; AFVs up 46% but share still low

Gasoline car registrations benefited from the decline of diesel, growing by 10.9% (+760,000 units) to a 50% market share; SUVs led growth with a record 4.56 higher than in 2016. when compared to 2016 and the highest volume of registrations since 2007 when 16.02 volume growth experienced in 2016 and 2015 respectively.

JATO: new car average CO2 emissions highest in Europe since 2014; slow EV uptake insufficient to counter fewer diesels and more SUVs

This was in part caused by marked changes in attitude and regulations around the use of diesel fuels which has had the unintended consequence of pushing people to drive higher-CO 2 -emitting gasoline vehicles. Despite this positive change, their emission levels were still higher than the averages they recorded in 2016 and 2017.
