In 2009, Ener1 subsidiary EnerDel received $118.5 million in federal grant funding under the stimulus package. Ener1 says the plan will significantly reduce its debt and provide up to $81 million to recapitalize itself to support its long-term business objectives and strategic plan.

A new Federal Grant will enable many electric vehicle early adopters to get their chargers for free. (A Nine United States regions will receive 4,600 free chargers for public and private use through the ChargePoint America program, funded in part by $15 million in stimulus funds administered by the Energy Department.

The company received a $535 million federal loan guarantee for construction of a manufacturing plant, a massive structure now rising beside Interstate 880. That project, according to the White House, employs more than 1,000 workers, making it one of the most successful stimulus investments in terms of spurring job creation.
