Exxon Mobil Corporation is commencing development of the ultra-deepwater Julia oil field in the Gulf of Mexico. ExxonMobil, the operator, and Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC each hold a 50% interest in the Julia unit. Capital cost for the project, which is expected to begin oil production in 2016, is estimated to be more than $4 billion.

Shell announced a “significant” new oil discovery in the deepwater eastern Gulf of Mexico, adding to discoveries in the area from 2009. The US Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will hold the consolidated Central Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 216/222 in New Orleans on 20 June 202012. Lease Sale 216/222 is the last remaining sale scheduled in the 2007 – 2012 Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Natural Gas Leasing Program.

BP announced a giant oil discovery at its Tiber Prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The well, located in Keathley Canyon block 102, approximately 250 miles (400 kilometers) south east of Houston, is in 4,132 feet (1,259 metres) of water. BP advances in drilling depth and reach.

BP announced today the drilling of a successful appraisal well in a previously untested northern segment of the Mad Dog field in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. in about 4,500 feet (1,371 meters) of water. BP is one of the largest producers of oil and gas in the US Gulf of Mexico with net production of more than 250,000 boed.

Shell announced a successful exploratory well at Vicksburg in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The well is located 75 miles (120 kilometers) offshore in the Mississippi Canyon Block 393 in 7,446 feet (2,269 meters) of water.
