And just like Woody, I’d like to sing you a song about a better way… My friends, with greenhouse gas emissions already in the danger zone, we needed to stop burning Killer Coal yesterday. Seems like a perfect use for some stimulus money, don’t it? 2007 USA electric energy fuel mix.

The vision is fuelled by the fear of climate change and the need to find green alternatives to dirty coal, unpopular nuclear power and unreliable gas imports from Russia. Every scrap of waste food, garden trimmings and even sewage would be used to ferment gas. Are we going to burn more oil, natural gas, or (gasp) coal to produce it?

Just ask Los Angeles Lakers Basketball fans. And it was the seemingly impossible goal of cutting Berkeley’s greenhouse gas emissions by a full 80% by 2050 – as required by a referendum vote of the Berkeley citizens. What an exhilarating difference a well organized and smartly thought-out lineup can make.
