The original Ford Taurus first appeared as a 1986 model , going through three generations and nearly 10 million sales (counting the Mercury Sable ) before getting the axe in October of 2006. The 206xxx sequence number in the VIN indicates very late production, though, meaning this car likely was built in October of 2006.

Mercury is toxic. " Indeed, the EPRI study's summary clearly states that annual and cumulative greenhouse gas emissions in every one of the nine electricity production and plug-in use scenarios considered (lotsof coal to little or no coal, lots of PHEVs to few of them) would be " reduced significantly." Blowback is predictable.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. Partnering with Alcoa, Duke Energy, Google.org, Johnson Controls Indiana startup plans to unveil vehicle May 2009 at EVS-24 in Norway; mass production in 2012. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.

At the moment, only 2004-2007 Priuses , and to a limited extent, the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner Hybrids. The 2006 Civic Hybrid, though it can theoretically drive solely on electric power, has too small an electric motor to effectively power the car by itself. See our 2007 Goals and 2006 Report.
