Total combined Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicle sales in the US have topped the one million mark, according to Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA. Overall, cumulative worldwide sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrids have exceeded 1.7 Toyota launched of the Prius in late 1997 in the Japan market, and in the US in July 2000.

Asian brands, led by Lexus, Toyota, and Mazda, in that order, continue to be the best for new car reliability in CR’s survey, which is the largest of its kind. The Model X SUV remained “Much-Worse-Than-Average” for reliability, with ongoing problems including the falcon-wing doors and center display screen.

Sales of the Prius began in North America, Europe and elsewhere in 2000. Next came the second-generation Prius in 2003 and the expanded use of TMC’s hybrid system on such vehicles as minivans, SUVs, rear-wheel-drive sedans and hatchbacks. In Japan, TMC launched the Coaster Hybrid EV in August 1997 and the Prius in December.

As the luxury SUV was the future and the PLC was the past, Lincoln announced the Mark VIII was canceled after the 1998 model year.& Those two model names were Lincoln’s original plan for the LS sedan, but Lexus stated the “LS#” naming was too close to their LS 400.& & Lincoln relented and branded the new sedan as LS.
