Thereby, we completely forego coal-based electricity and obtain our electrical energy from only renewable sources. In the future, 100% of additional purchased electricity will come from verifiable renewable sources, such as wind- and hydropower. The decision also fits with our overall strategy. The plant will start operating in 2019.

Together with other highly-flexible controllable systems in the BMW Group production network, they will contribute to the stability of the public grid outside of the plant. Electricity generation from variable renewable electricity sources (VRE) such as wind and solar power has grown rapidly and is expected to continue to do so.
