Duke Energy and FPL Group will begin this transition in the coming years with the goal that 100% of all new fleet vehicles will be plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by 2020. Currently, the only near-term options for available PEV supply are sedans, minivans, vans and a few bucket trucks.

Chrysler unveiled the all-new 2017 Pacifica minivan in both conventional and plug-in hybrid versions at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The PHEV is the minivan segment’s first. The Pacifica Hybrid will deliver an estimated all-electric range of 30 miles from a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery.

If this is appealing, then the 2022 Pacifica plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is what you are looking for. Chrysler calls it a “multipurpose vehicle,” but we will stick with modern minivan. Headroom in the second row and legroom in the third row are both 42 inches -- which puts the ID.Buzz at an advantage over plenty of three-row SUVs and minivans, even with a 195-inch overall length. To that end, wind and road noise didn't intrude much -- only on a patch of weird pavement did I really hear any tire noise at all.

Thankfully, since parts of the powertrain in the Circuit are also used in other Chrysler ENVI vehicles - like the all-electric USPS minivan that was unveiled earlier today - work that is done on one model can be applied to others.
