In some areas where wind and hydropower is wasted at night, the rate can be as low as 2-3 cents per kWh. This means the more maintenance-free electrical systems of PHEVs offset the initial higher cost of batteries. Thats 20-25 cents a gallon. Why Pay More for a PHEV?

As people have seen the EV adoption rate globally is under pressure and a lot of other auto manufacturers are pulling back on EVs and pursuing plugin hybrids instead.
