Although Tesla gets the headlines (and stock price boost), Nissan and Chevrolet make the sales. And thanks to the efforts of Plug In America, you can still claim a tax credit for your investment in home charging. The electric Infiniti has been “postponed,” and BMW is entering the market with a car that doesn’t challenge Tesla.

Nissan and GM have each had their preferred provider for home charge stations in an attempt to streamline the process, but many customers have had complaints about the cost and scheduling. They’ve kept my LEAF juiced, after all. It takes about seven hours to fill a near empty LEAF, ensuring a complete charge overnight.

Nissan, through its joint venture with NEC, has created a battery pack that meets the requirements of the electric vehicle and will produce it in mass volume. So while my car is powering the great city during the day how will I have juice to drive home at the end of the day? Electric vehicles will be available for customers in 2011.

Nissan is working on an electric car that it says is on track to have a 100-mile range and 26-minute charge time. The Renault-Nissan Alliance launched a pilot project in Arizona earlier this month to test out a charging network ahead of the planned 2010 launch of its electric vehicle. The price goes up with demand and usage.
