2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Exceed with electric scooter on the Gold Coast, Queensland They don’t take up much room, are easy to maintain and can be bought for not a lot of money. There’s the ‘last mile’ concept. I ditched the Outlander PHEV here and saddled up the e-scooter.

Of course, high tech helps coordinate this so it’s seamless from the driver’s chair. I got to see this a lot, since during our test week I took two 170-mile round trips to visit my family (in my COVID-19 bubble). Full of charms–and customizable tech. I averaged 25 mpg over 364 miles of mostly freeway driving.

When the all-electric Kia Niro was introduced in 2019 it followed the 2017 Niro hybrid and then the 2018 Niro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The Niro EV has an EPA estimated driving range of 239 miles, but in our real-world driving delivered 273 miles. Juicing up. The spacious interior contained accessible tech.

Nissan is working on an electric car that it says is on track to have a 100-mile range and 26-minute charge time. For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. My parents live about 180 miles away, which is well outside the range of most electric cars.
