Nissan; the Pima Association of Governments ( PAG ), which represents the Tucson, Arizona region; and ECOtality are forming a partnership to promote the development of an electric vehicle (EV) charging network in the area. Nissan will introduce EVs in the United States in 2010 and will mass market EVs globally two years later.

In March, Nissan announced a similar partnership with ECOtality and the Pima Association of Governments, in the Tucson, Ariz., ECOtality plans to link the Phoenix and Tucson Metro areas by implementing strategic fast-charge stations along Interstate 10 (I-10) to create the first implementation of an EV Corridor in North America.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance, which says it aims to be the global leader in zero-emission mobility, will bring electric vehicles to China in early 2011, making China one of the first countries to be supplied with electric vehicles from the Alliance. In 2012, Nissan and Renault will mass-market electric vehicles globally.

In reviewing its efforts to date in reducing CO 2 emissions, Nissan said that AESC (Automotive Energy Supply Corporation), its joint venture with NEC Corporation and NEC TOKIN Corporation, aims to be a leader in battery technology. Nissan has also committed to making a supply of electric vehicles available to the region’s public and private fleets in 2010 and will introduce zero-emission vehicles across the USA in the same year before mass marketing them across the globe by 2012. Phoenix is about 116 miles from Tucson.

Having already established working relationships in Tennessee; Oregon; Phoenix and Tucson Arizona; as well as Sonoma County and San Diego in California; the Renault-Nissan Alliance will now be working with Seattle to add recharging stations for electric vehicles.

Nissan also has agreed to make available a supply of EVs to Progress Energy. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has begun ZEV initiatives in Kanagawa Prefecture and Yokohama in Japan, as well as in Israel, Denmark, Portugal, Monaco, the UK, France, Switzerland, Ireland, China and Hong Kong. and Seattle.
