When the original Lexus GS 450h debuted in 2007, it entered the market as the world’s first hybrid luxury sport sedan. Time moves on quickly in the automotive world, and today the Lexus GS 450h has hybrid challengers from Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and even upstart Fisker.

From 2007 up to the end of the first quarter of this year, almost 100,000 hybrid vehicles have been sold in the UK; the market share of hybrids has almost doubled, from 0.7% Of that number of hybrids, 77,000 were Toyota or Lexus cars.

Succeeded by the RX 450h in 2009, it has claimed the largest share of Lexus hybrid sales (51.2%), with 259,000 units sold through to November this year. Lexus’s second hybrid model, the GS 450h, was introduced in 2006 and was the first premium production sedan to be fitted with a rear-wheel drive full hybrid powertrain.

Okay, perhaps not the last one, as thrills are conspicuously absent from many hybrids on the market today. Hybrids are great. Economical, clean, soothing, relaxing, quiet, thrilling. However, some carmakers are changing that image with powerful and luxurious models--and Lexus is one of those carmakers.

We can think of a few, particularly when it comes to some of the hybrid luxury sedans on the market, such as the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid or Lexus GS 450h, and there are a few on the horizon too, like the Acura NSX plug-in hybrid supercar. Can you think of a desirable hybrid?

The decline in hybrids was less than the 41% decline in the overall light-duty vehicle market for the month. of the new vehicle market, essentially flat with the January 2009 results. Monthly new vehicle market share for reported hybrids. The GS 450h posted 22 units, a 71.4% of all GS models. to 4052 units.

While Toyota's Prius dominates at the lower end of the hybrid market and is set to tighten its hold further with the Prius V and Prius C, Toyota subsiduary Lexus is set to field its GS 450h luxury hybrid sedan against the Infiniti M35h (a Green Car Reports best car to buy 2012 nominee) and BMW.
