Like the Recovery Act-funded projects, the annual Clean Cities projects include grants for vehicles, infrastructure, and education. Infrastructure to be deployed includes three CNG stations, one combined B20/CNG/Electric station, one L/CNG station, one hydrogen station, and seven electric chargers. Total DOE award: $13,195,000.

That’s about to change. However, heavy-duty electric trucks from traditional makers have started to hit the market.

And then there’s interoperability and all those standards that we take for granted in the 12- and 24-volt world. The primary customers right now are the ports—Port of Long Beach, Port of Los Angeles­—and the ports around the country are usually in urban environments. They don’t really exist in the 800-volt world. Garbage trucks.
