Many of the first Prius hybrids that were released are still running strong on their NiMH batteries after 100,000+ miles. Gasoline is burnt up and gone forever into the atmosphere and into our lungs. However, your claims about batteries needing replacement every five years are dubious at best. If you charge with solar, is way less.
