For example, in June, California experienced an 1800MW drop in electricity production in one hour due to wind fluctuations.

Here in New York City, where we have a population density that supports a mass transit system, most of our fossil fuel use is to power our buildings. In any case, when we switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy, we reduce but do not eliminate environmental damage. The current technologies work but have limits.

(The comparison to the electric vehicle is based on estimates which factor in the CO 2 emissions resulting from fuel production, with the DME-powered vehicle figure calculated from the use of renewable energy to generate the DME fuel, and the electric vehicle figure calculated from electricity generated from renewable resources.
