Nissan led with California ZEV credit transfers out during the last report period. Between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014, Nissan transferred out 663.6 NEV = Neighborhood Electric Vehicle. Large volume manufacturers for the 2013 model year included the big six: Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan and Toyota.

I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. Nissan Leaf EV – 4,192. Tesla and GM both exceeded the state’s 200,000-unit sales cap on rebates. Nissan and Ford are expected to follow shortly.

The ZEV mandate requires that large volume manufacturers produce and offer for sale in California a specified number of ZEVs. The existing ZEV program requirements are primarily expressed in terms of the number of vehicles that must be offered for sale, with adjustments for different types of vehicles.

Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse. Companies like ECOtality are already working with Nissan, which seems to have given up on battery swapping. It works with current customer habits quite well. Follow us on Twitter!
