India's Reva was first into the market with the G-Wiz. Corporate and public-sector fleets will get to lease 100 test cars for a pilot period of four years. Thanks in large part to Mayor "Red Ken" Livingstone, who enacted London's much criticized congestion charge policy in 2003. Yet Daimler's intention is more ambitious.

The company also announced in June that it will build electric family sized minivans, SUVs and fleet vans with DOE funding (see article ) and it has formed a partnership with Daimler to provide powertrain components for the electric Smart car.
