UK-based Elektromotive has appointed The PluginCompany to install networks of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Belgium and Luxembourg. Installations at other LeasePlan locations will follow in 2010, supporting the company’s commitment to increasing the availability of low- and zero-emissions vehicles within its European fleets.

Through a key partnership with Renault Trucks, the beverage manufacturer is electrifying one-fifth of its truck fleet and creating the largest fleet of electric trucks in Belgium. Each truck has an on-site charging station to recharge the battery fully overnight. The first five vehicles will go out today in the Antwerp area.

ABB has inaugurated the first OppCharge fast-charging station for electric buses in Benelux, in the commuter belt town of Bertrange, Luxembourg. Bus operator Sales-Lentz will use the charger to recharge electric hybrid buses from Volvo. —François Bausch, Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure in Luxembourg.
