The changes, announced on Thursday, apply to Zoox’s fleet of vehicles that it designed and built itself. Zoox also operates retrofitted self-driving Toyota Highlanders in Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Foster City, California.

Hyundai’s air mobility arm Supernal plans to put its new S-A2 aircraft into production in 2028 ahead of what it expects to be a huge increase in demand for electric aircraft as an alternative to taxis in cities. It is designed for shorter jounces between 25-40 miles / 40-64 kilometres. It uses eight tilting rotors.

Working with Infineum, the additive subsidiary of ExxonMobil and Shell, Biosynthetic Technologies has also recently completed a successful field trial fleet test using these high oleic-based biosynthetic motor oils in taxis operating in Las Vegas.

Kia has revealed much more about its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy for providing modular vehicles for last-mile delivery and other uses, potentially around the globe. It kicks off with the Kia PV5, a versatile, van-like vehicle positioned for ride-hailing and last-mile delivery. Software is a big piece of the PBV rollout, too.

I have also seen people advertising EVs on eBay who claim 100 mile range from a one hour charge using a standard 110V outlet. Let’s consider a simple example, say an EV conversion that has a 120V pack and a range of around 30 miles. Chrysler used this for their EPIC Minivan and could charge at a rate of about one mile per minute.
