Saft inaugurated an advanced automated lithium-ion battery factory in Jacksonville, Florida. This high-volume production facility will build advanced lithium-ion cells and batteries for energy storage for renewable energy, smart grid support, broadband back-up power, transportation and defense.

President Barack Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, released a strategic vision and plan for a high-speed passenger rail (HSR) system in the US. Additional funding for long-term planning and development is expected from legislation authorizing federal surface transportation programs.
