Fuel cell cars should be plug-in hybrids so that the fuel cell is used only for extended range, and the fuel cell stack and hydrogen storage can be smaller. Unless/until PV cells become more efficient, and are part of the original installation, they will seriously affect the cars aerodynamics and will be far less durable than metal.

Extended-range electric vehicles — such as the Chevy Volt, which GM says will recharge in three hours — offer another route, adding a small gas engine to keep drivers from feeling stranded without access to fuel. With a 55KWH battery, range is only 157 miles. My Honda Civic averages 34+ MPG over a year period.
