Of course, most owners of EVs use their vehicles in a local environment and, those that can, charge their vehicle’s battery overnight at home or during the day at work. Since it was not a Level 2 charger, I knew it would not gain much juice overnight. Consequently, range anxiety and charging locations are of little concern.

Unfortunately, car companies in India like Maruti, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Renault, Kia, and Volkswagen have not launched even a single electric car. The Japanese giants, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, are in denial, whereas the Americans giants, Ford and GM, are floundering. These are the real facts. In India, car makers have no clue.

Neutral richii @ Apr 19th 2009 5:28PM @ everyone, I can see what your trying to say, that without gas powered vehicles that a much larger strain will be put on electrical facilities that also contribute to air pollution and degrade our environment. Previous Engadget goes legs-on with Hondas walking-assist devices (with video!)

For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. My Honda Civic averages 34+ MPG over a year period. The company says its charge spots would have voltage on par with standard household outlets. That’s 7 cents worth of electricity per mile driven. a gallon , that’s 5.7
