Williams Advanced Engineering, the division of Williams that commercializes Formula One-based technologies, has been awarded a grant from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change’s Energy Entrepreneurs Fund to develop flywheel-based energy storage systems for use in grid stabilization.

The major driver for the project is the need to decarbonize the electrical grid, protect it from cybersecurity attacks and make it more resilient. We will be replicating the entire California power grid on one campus. It will also entail the construction of a new energy storage testing facility on the East Campus.
