Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation ( SEV US ) has selected Kansas City as the site for its US assembly plant. The new assembly plant will be located at a portion of an airline overhaul base at Kansas City International (KCI) Airport and is expected to create 120 jobs by 2010. The SEV US Newton.

A battery powered, all electric utility truck with an aerial device has been produced by Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation in association with Altec Industries Inc. It comes with a 120kW induction motor and a lithium-ion battery pack capable of a range in excess of 100 miles and a payload up to 16,280lbs.
