Following the market launch in 2025, models of the next vehicle generation will also be produced from 2026 onwards by BBA in Shenyang. The high-voltage batteries required for this will likewise be manufactured locally. BBA currently produces seven model ranges, with fully-electric, plug-in hybrid and internal combustion engines.

The BMW Group is investing €800 million in Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico for integration of fully-electric models of NEUE KLASSE and construction of local high-voltage battery assembly. More than 500 additional employees will work there, producing next-generation batteries for fully-electric vehicles.

The combustion engines with four, six, eight and 12 cylinders produced there will be manufactured at the company’s locations in Steyr in Austria and Hams Hall in the UK going forward. Mercedes-Benz Cars is expanding its production capacities for electric cars in Europe. The Hambach plant in France, which currently produces smart brand electric vehicles, will produce a compact electric car of the new product and technology brand EQ. From 2020, the brand smart will only offer electric vehicles.

New plants in Germany and Europe are planned with a CO 2 -neutral energy supply from the start: Already, the entire electricity demand of the smart plant in Hambach (France) is obtained from renewable energy sources. In Kecskemét (Hungary), a second plant under construction will be CO 2 -neutral. The plant will start operating in 2019.
