Ever since Lwanga Herbert was a youngster growing up in Kampala, Uganda, he wanted to create technology to improve his community. The devices were recognized by the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology. Herbert now works to use technology to address challenges faced by Uganda as a whole, such as high neonatal death rates.

New Award Recognizes IEEE Society’s Work in DEI

The society also has expanded its chapters to other parts of the world. The IEEE senior member was designated as the committee’s point of contact to the TAB’s diversity and inclusion committee. The initiative is designed to improve services offered in Africa, increase membership, and add chapters.
