Toyota Motor Corporation has agreed to collaborate with Masdar, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Air Liquide, and Toyota distributor Al-Futtaim Motors in a joint research program to explore the potential of hydrogen energy use in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the creation of a sustainable, low-carbon society.

This project is another important milestone for in the UAE’s shift to a lower carbon renewable energy future. The new facility will produce green ammonia which is an energy carrier that enables easy transportation of renewable energy e.g. via ship. The plant will use solar power to electrolyze water.

The transition applies, in particular, to the energy-intensive electrolysis used in producing aluminum and to the wheel-casting process. This eliminates the need for energy-intensive electrolysis to produce the primary raw material. To this end, corresponding agreements have been reached with all BMW Group wheel suppliers.
