It shares an all-new platform with the purely petrol Outlander version. litre combustion petrol engine allied with twin electric motors, a 20kWh lithium-ion battery pack and all-wheel-drive. For a plug-in hybrid it is, but those prices are some $15,000 more than the equivalent Outlander petrol versions. Is it good value?

We did not have the opportunity to assess laden performance or range and a brief 25-minute drive was not long enough to accurately assess how far one of these utes will travel before needing to re-juice – loaded, towing or otherwise. Ford claims a range of 510km, and by all accounts, this is a fairly accurate indication.

BMW M cars – they’re coming with hybrid drivetrains. Ford E-Transit – the first EV Ford confirmed for Australia is slated for mid-2022. Ford has also confirmed the smaller Transit Custom to go EV. And if we’re guessing, we reckon it could be called the Ranger Lightning (see above).
