The California Energy Commission (CEC) is awarding $1,135,862 to 12 small-scale projects to research that will reduce the cost of producing electricity, save energy and improve the environment. The technology has the potential to increase the generation and efficiency of solar power in California.

In July, the DOE announced that ARPA-E had received approximately 3,500 submissions for the approximately $150 million available as part of the first Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0000065) released 27 April 2009. Of the lead recipients, 43% are small businesses, 35% are educational institutions, and 19% are large corporations.
