The project will develop a new device called the Galloping Hydrokinetic Energy Extraction Device that will convert fast-moving river currents into an oscillating motion that will drive a dielectric elastomer generator (DEG). Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is one approach being taken, where stored energy from the electric vehicles is used to power the grid during peak hours, and then the vehicles are recharged during non-peak times. For example, utilities in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts are planning projects of about US$25 million each.
