The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) (Maryland) Board of Education approved a contract on Tuesday evening with Highland Electric Transportation, a provider of turnkey electric fleet solutions, to convert the MCPS school bus fleet to all-electric, starting with 326 school buses over the next four years.

Transportation alone requires almost as much energy ( 27 quadrillion BTU or “quads,” as of 2021 in the United States ) as the entire electric grid can supply (37 quads). I’m talking about the energy we draw from, how we convert that energy, how we scale our grid’s capacity and resiliency, and how we make all of this affordable.

Third party converters have spent time and resources tweaking their plug-in hybrids to meet ARB testing written with gasoline-only hybrids in mind.

Until then, we also recommend you look at the FAQ at the Climate Progress Blog and the FAQ by Hybrids-Plus , an after-market converter of hybrid cars, for answers to many questions! But its monumentally less pollution , even on the national (half-coal) grid. Whats Vehicle-to-Grid and why would I like it?
