Individuals and businesses lose months and connect fees when they add solar and other forms of renewable energy to the grid. So while my car is powering the great city during the day how will I have juice to drive home at the end of the day? The current electrical grid is poorly designed for distributed generation of power.

GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
