AC Propulsion has delivered an AC Propulsion-powered eBox to the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where it will be used to evaluate Vehicle to Grid (V2G) operation as part of a research program. Integration between the power grid and electric vehicles will become essential and beneficial as EV numbers increase over the next decade.

In 2013, BMW and the University of San Diego installed a micro grid application with Battery 2nd Life MINI E batteries.

The BMW Concept ActiveE follows the all-electric MINI E as the second large-scale electric vehicle test program to be conducted in the hands of interested customers. On the European power grid, the battery pack can be fully charged in just 3 hours at a wall box with a current of 50 ampere at 230/240 volts.

The feedback from customers testing the MINI E and the BMW ActiveE will be fed directly into series production of the MCV, which the BMW Group will be launching under a new sub-brand in 2013. Unlike the MINI E, the BMW ActiveE features a distinctive “intermediate position” of the accelerator pedal, allowing the vehicle to “glide”.

They even had a real plug connected to their toy car on the exhibit hall. Same truth of engineers who have actually talked to real drivers is in evidence with the BMW Mini-E. The eBox above from AC Propulsion is sending power to and from the grid right there on the Long Beach Convention Center floor.
