Air Products has signed a long-term supply contract with Monsanto Company to build a new world-scale hydrogen production plant to be located at Monsanto’s Luling, Louisiana Roundup facility. Air Products’ East Gulf Coast hydrogen pipeline system currently reaches more than 175 continuous miles from Baton Rouge to Chalmette, Louisiana.

Air Products will supply a combined additional supply of more than 200 million standard cubic feet per day of hydrogen for Valero’s refineries in St. Charles, Louisiana and Port Arthur, Texas. Air Products has been supplying hydrogen via pipeline to Valero’s St Charles refinery since 1997 and also to Port Arthur since 1996.

Air Products, the leading global hydrogen provider, held a dedication ceremony for what is now the world’s largest hydrogen plant and pipeline supply network. Air Products had operated two hydrogen pipeline systems in Texas and Louisiana before joining them with a new 180-mile segment.

Air Products recently announced a long-term hydrogen supply contract with ExxonMobil’s (Esso) Rotterdam refinery in The Netherlands and will build a new world-scale hydrogen production plant to serve that refinery and additional customers in the region, including Shell. The supply is due to be on-stream in 2011.
