The EU Innovation Fund will award a grant of €88 million to Neste’s green hydrogen and CO 2 capture & storage project, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the Porvoo refinery in Finland. ECOPLANTA aims to convert non-recyclable fractions of municipal solid waste to chemicals and biofuels.

While the EU remains on track to meet its 2020 emissions reduction target, updated data shows Member States cannot afford to take progress beyond that date for granted. The energy sector was able to reduce its emissions due to the decreasing share of coal used to produce electricity and heat in the EU. We know it can be done.
